Where I stayed while in London

Where I stayed while in London

Welcome back! Here is a follow-up post about the hotel we stayed in while in London. It is part of my effort to share with you all the hotels I have stayed in during my travels, as there is only so much one can share on platforms like Trip Advisor and so on. Let me know in the comments below if you like such posts?

I am happy to say that guests that check-in the hotel DoubleTree by Hilton are always greeted with a warm chocolate chip cookie and I think it is a thoughtful thing to do! After our long and tiring journey, it is quite a nice gesture to have a nice warm cookie offered to us. Which by the way was delicious. The hotel was quite busy as there was a long queue of guests waiting to check-in and this was the case on all the three days that we were staying at the hotel. There were about 12 people helping at the front desk with check-ins, also the bell boy’s helped with handing out the said cookies. Everyone was polite and it was a nice experience to be checked-in without any hassles.

Unfortunately we arrived in the city of London at 11 am and as check-in at the hotel is only around 3 pm, we had to wait for our room as we had pre-booked it. Yes, it’s possible to book the room you like in advance!! But please do check with the hotel by giving them a ring in advance to confirm.

How to get there:

Once in London depends where you arrive from head in the direction of Tower Hill. You can take a cab or metro. In our case, we arrived at Liverpool Street station, via Stanstead Express from the airport. It was then a short walk from there to the Tower of London. Alternatively once you arrive at Liverpool Street Station, you can take a metro straight to Tower Hill Station and from there it is a 3-minute walk.

Offers from the hotel:

The hotel is non-smoking throughout with the exception of the roof terrace areas of Sky-lounge and offers:

  • Complimentary WiFi for Hilton Honors members throughout the hotel; complimentary WiFi in public areas
  • iMac in every standard and deluxe guest room
  • Modern London hotel in the financial district; minute walk to Tower Hill tube station; 5-minute walk to Tower of London and Tower Bridge
  • Complimentary breakfast, 55-inch TVs in the newly refurbished executive rooms and suites
  • City Café breakfast restaurant; 12th-floor rooftop SkyLounge bar; Gourmet To Go menu at Lobby Bar under glass atrium roof

Dining

City Cafe restaurant, Number 7 bar and the SkyLounge offer a wide choice of dishes using specially sourced, fresh ingredients. City Café, is a breakfast restaurant, offering cuisine with an emphasis on seasonality. Guests can choose from extensive hot and cold buffet and separate bread station offering freshly baked loaves, bagels & rolls. For those who would like other breakfast options, an à la carte breakfast menu is also available.

SkyLounge boasts 360-degree views across the London skyline and has fast become a fashionable destination for guests and locals alike. The cocktail lounge with a large rooftop terrace overlooking Tower Bridge and Tower of London is a must-visit, especially when you are a guest at the hotel and don’t want to travel too far to enjoy a drink or two. The SkyLounge is chic and classy with access to an open rooftop area. Anyone can go outside on the veranda, to have a nice view of the city of London.

Number 7 located adjacent to the hotel lobby, under the impressive central atrium. The Lobby Bar is the perfect place to enjoy refreshments. Choose from a selection of croissants and homemade cakes prepared by our pastry chef, with freshly brewed coffee and fresh juices.

For those who can afford it, there is also an executive lounge when you upgrade to an Executive room or suite.

Favourite:

What I loved about this hotel is the atrium overlooking the lobby and right above Number 7. It is a huge glass dome through which you can see the sky and the hotel floors above. The hotel boasts one of Europe’s tallest green walls when you enter the lobby. The 11th floor has a very interesting interior compared to other floors and is a great place to take a seat and observe the surrounding buildings and hotels. The overall ambience of the hotel is quite relaxing. It would be great if they had a swimming pool or sauna somewhere in the hotel, just to relax after a night out in the cold.

All in all we had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The breakfast’s were filling and delicious and also the Skylounge was a wonderful experience. We also received a complimentary drink voucher for a single drink per person, in one of the bars in the hotel. We chose SkyLounge and so it appeared that also other guests from the hotel were up there too. I loved that after a long day of sightseeing and walking around for hours, I could come back to the hotel, shower and just dress up and go straight to the rooftop bar for a drink or two, without having to worry of staying out too late and then catching a cab back to the hotel.

We are already planning our next trip to London as I still have a valid visa now and if you want to see what I was up to in my last visit, you can check my previous post here.

Till next time
xoxo
Doreen
