Where I stayed while in Gran Canaria + Servatur Review
As promised in my previous post, here is the follow-up blog post about my stay in the beautiful island of Grand Canary. From the moment we arrived, until the moment we left the hotel, we felt right at home. Servatur Waikiki Gran Canaria is located about 1500 meters from its famous beach – Playa del Inglés and the infamous sand dunes.
The Hotel
Servatur Waikiki Gran Canaria a.k.a Suneo Club is a wonderful place to unwind and relax. The flight from Katowice was about five hours long and so we reached the hotel at almost dinner time and were checked in immediately. This Hawaiian themed hotel has five towers each having its own name – Maui (tower A), Hawai (tower B), Kauai (tower C), Lanai (tower D) and Ohana (tower E). The buildings are circular in construction with a stairway that opens up to the sky! There is also a lift, so it’s easy to take the luggage up as well. The stairway has a beautiful rustic feel and every room has its own private balcony. The rooms are modern and spacious with a minimalist decor. Our room was in Ohana and we had a view of the mountains on the one side and on the other a view of the pool and general area below.
Food and Entertainment
The all-inclusive package starts from the minute you check in and does not matter what time of the day you arrive. So we made it to our first buffet-style dinner and ate more than our fill. Each days dinner had a theme to keep things diverse and so on our arrival, we were welcomed with a generous portion of seafood Paella. The food is cooked right in front of you at the food stations located inside the restaurant itself, so you can pick up what you like as you go!
The flavours were local and delicious. My favourite dish was the Gambi (Prawns) in garlic butter sauce. All dinner’s included alcohol- the local beer from the tap and wines as well. Breakfasts too were wonderful with different assortments and fresh fruits and vegetables. All meals are buffet style with drinks included.
The hotel offers a wide range of entertainment throughout the day from poolside activities for kids and adults alike. There were activities like water polo, water aerobics, inflatable castle slides for kids and other pool games. In the facility, there is also a mini water theme park called Hula-Hula park for the toddler’s, a fully equipped gym, a multi-sport court, a Jacuzzi and lounging area -Muai Tai, two bars and snacks counter. It’s hard to feel bored here with so much happening all the time.
The animators are so caring and friendly and they make you feel right at home. Almost all of them spoke a few different European languages, which was good considering there were guests from all over Europe who stay at the hotel. They were always around during the day. In the evenings there were shows for the families which included a lot of singing and dancing from the animators. The bar by the pool serves alcohol and beverages from right after breakfast until the last customer in the night.
Getting Around
The hotel is located just a short 10-minute walk to the beach and also on the same street as the hotel there are lots of shops/supermarkets where you can buy almost anything one would need for a holiday -snacks, alcohol, other souvenirs and knick-knacks. The beachfront offers you a hustling bustling bazaar with many restaurants and cafe. The beachside area is quite busy until the wee hours. Right outside the entrance of the hotel is a rent a car dealer, who offers two-wheelers and cars for hire. Rates are reasonable and slightly negotiable, but it is a similar rate as we asked around at other places as well. Local buses also ply frequently to the other beaches and the bus stop is just outside the hotel as well. We did not take the local bus, but they seemed nice and fully air-conditioned. I think renting a car gave us the opportunity to see more of the island and my advice would be to do the same if you are gonna travel to the island for a holiday and would like to see more.
What to See
There are plenty of things to do on the island itself. I mean the beauty of the island with its diverse flora and fauna and topographical set up makes it an amazing place to go sightseeing. You can read all about it in my previous blog post. The hotel provides some travel offers as well for tours across the island. We made a prior reservation for a Catamaran cruise which I mentioned in my previous post. I also recommend a drive around the island.
The five days flew by so quick but we made every minute count. I would like to say if you go to the island on your next holiday, do stay at Suneo Club. I had a very great experience and would go back in a heartbeat.
xoxo
